What are you currently reading?
I received a copy of Peter Leonard's latest, "Trust Me," so I've opened that and started reading. I've got some short-story anthologies on my reading pile waiting, too.
What advice do you have for aspiring authors?
Since I still consider myself an "aspiring author," I'd just tell others what I tell myself -- namely, take rejections as inspiration to be a better writer, and write something every single day. And read, read, read! Learn from the mistakes and the genius of others.
Do you have any other creative pursuits?
I used to play the piano, and I miss it. If I can get my hands on a piano some day soon, I'll be happy to get lost in playing some Brahms and Chopin again. I also play the recorder from time to time and love to sketch, mostly pen and pencil. With a busy schedule, these things tend to take a back seat, alas.
What is the first thing you remember writing?
I wrote a poem called "Lost" for a school assignment when I was 10. It actually won a little award after my teacher entered it in a contest. Poetry was my first love, and I still dabble occasionally.
